Arash Emami, MD, is a nationally renowned board-certified spine surgeon fully versed in operative and non-operative treatment of adult and pediatric spinal disorders. As a leader in the field of minimally invasive spine surgery, Dr. Emami is recognized with original publications on safety of outpatient spinal surgeries and has made hundreds of presentations at scientific meetings worldwide. He was the first surgeon in New Jersey to perform cervical and lumbar disc arthroplasty. Dr. Emami has also been featured in the media on the ABC, CBS and HBO television networks, as well as The Star Ledger. He has been recognized as one of Castle Connolly’s New York/New Jersey Top Doctors every year since 2005, and has earned distinction as one of America’s Top Spine Surgeons for the Consumer’s Research Council. Dr. Emami was also a consulting team physician for the NY Rangers professional hockey team. He earned his medical doctorate with honors from University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine, and completed his orthopaedic residency at the University of Chicago and a fellowship in spinal surgery at University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Emami is currently the Chairman of Orthopaedics and the Chief of Spine Surgery at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and a member of the North American Spine Society and the Scoliosis Research Society.
Ki Soo Hwang, MD, is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in spine surgery. He earned his medical doctorate from University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, New Jersey Medical School. He then completed his orthopaedic residency at the Maimonides Medical Center and his fellowship in spine surgery at University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Hwang has also earned the Top Doc award multiple times and is especially skilled in the treatment of disc degeneration, spinal stenosis and spondylolisthesis through minimally invasive surgeries. He utilizes advanced techniques to correct spinal deformities and often performs revision surgery for both pediatric and adult patients with failed back or flat back syndrome. He has taught Orthopaedic residents, Spine Surgery Fellows and other practicing Spine Surgeons around the world in the most cutting edge surgical and non-surgical spinal approaches. Dr. Hwang has published numerous peer reviewed articles on the management of spinal disorders. He enjoys talking to his patients to determine the root of their spinal problems. When he recommends a surgery, he knows that his team consensus is the right approach – and that’s what sets University Spine Center apart.
