Q.My sister told me that THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS’ Eric Braeden nearly walked away from the part because he didn’t like that Victor was portrayed as a bad guy. Is this true?
S. Moore via E-mail
A.The showbiz vet didn’t object to being a bad guy as much as he objected to being a one-note bad guy! Braeden once told Y&R’s co-creator, the late Bill Bell, that he wanted off the sudser unless something was written to explain Victor’s nasty ways. “I said there must be something in his background that made him the way he is now, because I was tired of playing the bad guy. I was empty. I had done that on nighttime television for years, and, after a while it was so dehumanizing that I said that I can’t do it anymore.” The Emmy winner says that he was thrilled when Bell added a backstory involving Victor being left at an orphanage to help explain The Mustache’s behavior. “When I did [the orphanage] storyline, I just knew that I would stay on,” Braeden reflects. “It gave a dimension to the character that had never been there in any of the bad guys that I played before, and it interested me a lot.”
Q.After GH’s Kristina was injured when Charlie’s Pub exploded, people on Twitter said she’d nearly been blown up once before. Can you fill me in on how that happened? Hecata Stevens New Orleans, LA
A. This time, Grandpa Mike nearly did her in… and the last time, it was her her own father! Sonny planted a bomb in the car of Johnny Zacchara after the young man and Kristina’s plan to pretend to be dating to rile up their families worked a little too well! Of course, Sonny never intended his little girl to be near the car when it exploded! Luckily, no one was killed when the bomb went off… although Kristina did later need surgery to remove a bone fragment lodged near her spinal cord during the blast.
Johnny halfheartedly tried using the Force to remove Kristina’s bone fragment. It did not work.
Braeden put a lotof thought into making Victor threedimensional.
