Martha Madison (Belle)

ABC Soaps In Depth - - In Memoriam -

“I adored Peggy. She was funny, witty and a superb actress and scene partner. She leaves a bright legacy.”

Born in Pennsylvania and raised in upstate New York, Parker broke into showbiz in 1963 playing Paddy Kelly, the founder of Kelly’s Diner on GH. When not making appearances on series ranging from HOGAN’S HEROES to WONDER WOMAN, he made his DAYS debut in 1977 as a car salesman. Six years later, he returned to the soap as Dr. Patrick Hennesy.

However, it was his role of Irish fisherman Shawn, beloved husband, father of six and either grandfather or great grandfather to nearly everyone in Salem, for which the notoriously press-shy performer will be best remembered. Shawn first appeared at Roman and Marlena’s 1983 wedding and, in his final scenes, perished during a sabotaged flight home from Ireland after giving up his oxygen mask to Bo in 2008.

In real life, Parker had been married to Nola Donnell Rajcok, with whom he had three daughters, Candace (who died in 1999) and twins Danielle and Lindsay. He’d gone on to wed Mary Jean Dunning Garafalo in 2005, and they’d been residing in Vacaville, CA, when he passed away September 16 from complications of Parkinson’s disease and dementia.
