Chain Gang

Air & Space Smithsonian - - In The Museum -

A plane captain (opposite) is responsible for making sure his aircraft is missionready and for securing it—with six tie-down chains—once it has returned and been pushed to a parking spot. The captains clean the chains to remove salt spray, adjust their tensions, and may add more chains in response to sea conditions.
