reached Comet 67P last fall, the mis­sion team no­ticed sev­eral cir­cu­lar pits. Sci­en­tists first thought they were ex­plo­sive out­bursts but now be­lieve they are sink­holes, cre­ated when ice sub­li­mated un­der­neath the sur­face and, even­tu­ally, the sur­face ma­te­rial col­lapsed. Rosetta’s mis­sion has been ex­tended through Septem­ber 2016.
