Joan Lee Lastocy
FAIRLAWN - Joan Lee (Horner) Lastocy (88) passed away peacefully on February 15, 2024.
Born in Akron, Ohio on June 13, 1935 to the late Holley and Frances Horner, Joan had a loving upbringing surrounded by family, including her late brother Jack and cousin - who was more like a sister - Barbara. She attended Garfield High School, where she first caught the eye of her high school sweetheart, Donald. They were the classic love story of head cheerleader and captain of the football team, marrying a few years after graduation and raising one daughter, Victoria, together. They were married for 68 wonderful years.
Joan graduated from The University of Akron where she enjoyed membership in the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. After graduation, Joan served as a devoted primary school teacher in the Coventry School District until 1986 when she retired. After retirement she acted as a substitute teacher in the Green School District for several years. Outside of work, Joan was an active member of High Street Christian Church and First Congregational Church in Akron. She also dedicated countless hours serving those in need through the Good Neighbors Organization. Joan loved to play golf, dine out, win at Bingo, and travel, but most of all she loved spending time with her granddaughters and treating them to the occasional bowl of ice cream for breakfast.
She is survived by her husband Donald Lastocy, devoted daughter Victoria Turlik (John), two granddaughters Lauren Cosgrove (Bill) and Courtney Buckhout (Christian), and four great granddaughters Charlotte, Cecelia, Abigail, and Caroline. Joan is also survived by her beloved first cousin Barbara Plum. She will be missed by many friends, family, and especially the Community at The Village of St. Edward in Fairlawn where she lived since September 2021. A private service will be held for the family.
