Margaret Young Huff
TACOMA - Margaret (Meg) Young Huff, age 66, passed away suddenly on Friday, March 16, at St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington, due to a massive stroke. She was born in Akron, Ohio, on August 16, 1957, to Wayne Shuford Young and Bonnie Stewart Young.
Meg attended Old Trail School in Akron until her parents’ divorce in 1966, when she and her five siblings moved with their mother to Philadelphia, where her mother met and married Lester (aka Lars) M. Mickelson in 1967, a widower with seven children. The family of 15 subsequently moved to Atherton, California. Meg graduated from Crystal Springs School in Hillsborough, California, and attended University of the Pacific in Stockton, California, where she met her first husband, Michael J. Sullivan. She and Mike moved to Washington state, where their two children were born, eventually divorcing in 1996.
Ever health-minded and physically energetic, Meg opened an aerobics school in Federal Way, Washington, where she met her second husband, Jeffrey A. Huff, of Tacoma, when he became one of her students. Subsequently, Meg joined Jeff ’s financial consulting business as office manager, and they married in 2005.
Meg’s great spirit and exceptionally warm and empathetic personality, combined with a keen sense of humor and selflessness, endeared her to many. Among her greatest joys was being with her nieces and nephews, grandchildren and step-grandchildren, and children with special needs. She was an excellent cook and skilled in knitting and needlework, creating many unique gifts for family and friends. Her favorite retreat was her family’s island summer home of many generations, Windswept, in northern Michigan’s Les Cheneaux Islands on Lake Huron.
Meg was preceded in death by her grandparents, Edith Shuford Young and Wayne A. Young of Wadsworth and Akron, Ohio, and Catherine Seiberling Stewart and H. Bartlett Stewart, Jr., of Hartville and Akron, and beloved stepfather, Lester M Mickelson (aka Lars Mikkelsen), three siblings, Beth Ann Young, Mark Jonathan Young, and Amy Stewart Young, and stepbrother Peter Larsen Mikkelsen. Along with her husband, Jeff, she is survived by her mother, Bonnie Stewart Mickelson (aka Mikkelsen), two daughters, Shauna Sullivan Stewart and Erin Margaret Sullivan, two stepchildren, Marissa Huff Flood and Marshall Huff, two siblings, Catherine Young Burnett and Kurt Augustus Young, two half-siblings, Larsen Stewart Mickelson (aka Mikkelsen) and Solveig Mickelson Gibeau, plus six stepsiblings, Clifford P. Mikkelsen, Mark D. Mickelson, Diane M. Rizk, Maureen M. Adgar, Julie A. Mickelson, and Tarji M. Rodriguez; and additionally, six grandchildren and step grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews.
A life celebration is being planned, and remembrances may be made to one’s charity of choice, which would be her wish.
