Wozniacki captures 2nd Eastbourne title

EASTBOURNE, England — Top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki won the Eastbourne Internatio­nal for the second time on Saturday, beating Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets for her 29th career title.

Wozniacki, who was runner-up last year, triumphed 7-5, 7-6 (5) in just less than two hours, sealing the match with a backhand down the line.

Second-ranked Wozniacki was made to work by No. 45 Sabalenka, and had to save two set points in the opening set.

Wozniacki also had to recover from a break down in both sets before securing a repeat of her 2009 success.

On the men’s side, Mischa Zverev won the first ATP title of his career with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Lukas Lacko. More tennis: Damir Dzumhur won his third ATP title at the Antalya Open when he beat Adrian Mannarino 6-1, 1-6, 6-1. The second-seeded Dzumhur broke twice in the first set. In the second, his errors let top-seeded Mannarino back in. In the deciding set, Mannarino made three mistakes in the fourth game, and fell behind 3-1. Dzumhur broke again for 5-1, and won on his second match point. Mannarino has lost all five of his ATP finals, including his second straight at Antalya. He is seeded 22nd at Wimbledon. Dzumhur is seeded 27th.

NFL: New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick is expressing sympathy for those killed at the office of the Capital Gazette newspaper in Annapolis, Md. Belichick was raised in Annapolis, where his father was an assistant football coach at the U.S. Naval Academy. Belichick graduated from Annapolis High School in 1970. On Thursday, five employees of The Capital were killed by a gunman who broke into the building, opened fire and was subsequent­ly arrested. Belichick said: “For my entire life, The Capital has been my hometown newspaper. My family and I have enjoyed special relationsh­ips with many great people who have worked for the newspaper. My heart goes out to the victims, their families and the entire Annapolis community for this terrible and senseless tragedy.”
