Kids’ Summer Series to kick off on Thursday

The Barker Park Kids’ Summer Series will offer free activities and summer fun for children Thursdays at 11 a.m. July 5 through Aug. 23 at the park on the corner of Third and State streets in Troy.

The schedule is:

■ July 5, Troy Fire and Troy Police Department­s will bring one of the big rigs, a police car and bike. Children can learn about an engine, a rescue engine and truck companies, ambulances, a hazardous material response unit and rescue boats.

■ July 12, Movement Story Hour with the Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company for toddlers to age 8. Stories drawn from the dance company’s collection of children’s books and visual and verbal tools for children to find imaginativ­e ways to move.

■ July 19, Andy The Music

Man, a children’s musician, guitarist, mandolin player and songwriter, mingles traditiona­l and original songs and novelty, involving kids through sing-alongs, dancing, play-acting and storytelli­ng.

■ July 26, Ramblin Jug Stompers, mixing in the best of the ’60s folk revival with the current Americana movement. The quartet traces its roots to the Star Spangled Washboard Band and MTV pioneer Blotto.

■ Aug. 2, Troy Public Library will host a story hour with a visit from Spiderman for children ages 4 to 10; the wearing of Super Hero gear is encouraged. ■ Aug. 9, Heard, composed of Elizabeth Woodbury Kasius, composer, pianist; Jonathan Greene, woodwinds; Bobby Kendall, bass; Brian Melick, drums, percussion; and Zorkie Nelson, drums, percussion, vocals, presents interactiv­e show with percussion instrument­s.

■ Aug. 16, Watch Reggie Run — Dave Graham, formed in 2017 by Dave and his son Luke who has autism, talk about how they spend their time when not making music, like watching Luke’s sister Reggie run in track and XC meets.

■ Aug. 23, Seth and The Moodymelix, the trio plays music for kids that parents can appreciate too. Seth Warden on guitar, Doug Moody on fiddle and Brian Melick plays percussion, along with harmony vocals.

The series is being offered by The Troy Savings Bank Music Hall Corp. and The Troy Savings Bank Charitable Foundation.
