Ballston Area Seniors events set

BALLSTON SPA— The Ballston Area Senior Citizens have several events and opportunit­ies coming up for anyone over the age of 55, who are long-time or new residents of the area, and are looking to meet “young” seniors.

BASC sponsors many events at The Milton Community Center, 310 Northline Road. Activities include dances, festive dinners, bus trips, crafts, chorus, movies and much more. More than 75 members also attend the weekly pot luck luncheons, every Thursday at 11 a.m.

The Ballston Area Seniors Chorus is looking for new members to sing at nursing and retirement homes.

July 11: Pickin’ Sessions from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Amateur and profession­al musicians are invited to perform solo of with group. This event free to the public and guests are encouraged to bring a snack to share.

July 11: Bustriptos­ee “Anything Goes” at the Westcheste­r Broadway Theater. Tickets are $66 and will include the bus ride, lunch and the show.

July 14: Monthly Dance from 7 to 10 p.m. Live music will be provided by the Countrymen Band and this event is open to the public. There will be a $5 entrance fee for non-members. Members are encouraged to bring a snack to share.

Oct. 20: Annual Bazaar from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. This event will include over 30 vendors, a country store, pie table, raffles, a silent auction and more. Food will be available for purchase.

Leave No Trace Walk July 11

FORT HUNTER— Join an environmen­tal educator at 5:30 p.m. July 11th at Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site, 129 Schoharie St., for a conservati­onthemed walk to learn

about Leave No Trace.

Attendees will meet at the Visitor Center and enjoy an hour-long walk around the site. This program is open to all ages, but has been designed for families with children ages five and up.

Backyard Garden Tour on July 12

RENSSELAER— The Cornell Cooperativ­e Extension of Rensselaer County will hold its annual Garden Tour from 4 to 8 p.m. on July 12.

The drive-it-yourself tour will highlight more than 15 gardens and will include condominiu­m and townhouses, sun perennial and pool-side gardens, raised vegetable beds, fruit plants, arbors and pathways and backyard orchards.

Maps will be sold for $10 per person or $30 per car and can be purchased from 4 to 7 p.m. on the day of the tour at Becker’s Farm/ Garden Center, 420 Columbia Turnpike/routes 9&20, Rensselaer.

The tour will be held rain or shine and proceeds will benefit the Rensselaer County Master Gardener program.

Lily Festival to be held in Schoharie

SCHOHARIE—THE Schoharie Promotiona­l Associatio­n will present its second annual Lily Festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, at the Schoharie Lily Park, located on Fort Road off of Route 30 in the village.

The Lily Park features a lily-lined walking path that passes through gardens planted by community members.

The celebratio­n begins at 10 a.m. with a lady bug release, followed by presentati­ons, a pet parade and contest, scavenger hunt and silent auctions. Children’s activities include pony rides, games and face painting. There

will also be food, music, entertainm­ent, vendors, crafts and artisans on site.

Annual Troy Pig Out slated for July 14

TROY — The annual Troy Pig Out will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on July

14, at Riverfront Park.

The event will feature food and craft vendors, live music, kid-friendly activities, contests, fireworks and all the barbecue you can eat.

Attendees can also participat­e in the Dinosaur BBQ People’s Choice Awards. Pork rib tickets will go for $2 and can be redeemed at the competitor of your choosing from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Cornhole tournament­s and the Third Annual Hotdog Eating Contest are open to guests throughout the day.

Fireworks will be shot at dusk over the Hudson River. This event is also vegan and vegetarian friendly.

250th birthday festivitie­s at Rice

MAYFIELD—THE Mayfield Historical Society will celebrate the 250th birthday of Riceville’s namesake, Oliver Rice, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 12 at the Rice Homestead, 328 Riceville Road.

This free event will feature live music from Hitrick & Brooks, an ice cream social, historic tours and hot dogs with the locally iconic “Lee’s Famous Hot Dog Sauce” available for purchase.

In celebratio­n, the society will also hold its first Antique and Hot

Rod Cruise-in during the event.

Enjoy baseball games with family

Two bus trips to baseball games in New York City are coming up.

One is a Saturday, July 14 bus trip to the 4 p.m. Washington Nationals and New York Mets game. Tickets will be buy two, get one free, which works out to $70 each.

And the second is an Aug. 1 bus trip to the Orioles at the Yankees. Cost will be $87 a person.

Both trips will include transporta­tion on a deluxe bus, meal at the park, movie on the bus and familybond­ing.

Pick up and drop off will be from Clifton Park and Latham.

Proceeds benefit the Internatio­nal Club.

Canal Days Festival to be held July 14-15

FORT HUNTER— The Schoharie Crossing will host the annual Canal Days Festival from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 14 and 15 at the Historic Site, 129 Schoharie St.

This free event will celebrate the Erie Canal and will include live music by Tompkins Drive and the Jump Daddies, food vendors, a car show, kayak and horse shoeing demos, games, a guided bike tour and more. A magic show by Sean the Prankster will also take place at 1:30 p.m. both days.

MVP Kids Day set at the Plaza July 14

ALBANY— MVP Health Care will hold its annual Kids Day from 12 to 5 p.m. July 14 at the Empire State Plaza.

This year’s event will feature Thomas & Friends and will include live music, a petting zoo, food vendors, bounce rides, chances to meet members of the DC Comic’s Teen Titans, Robin and Starfire and more.

This event is free and will be held in the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in the event of rain.
