Market demand drops for recyclable items
It’s getting hard to recycle. That’s the message last week from County Waste, which said market demand for plastics, paper and other products has weakened.
Add to that list obsolete electronics. A neighbor of The Buzz several weeks ago left an old computer monitor at the curb, with the sign “free,” prominently taped to the screen.
When last we checked on Thursday, the old cathode ray tube was still there.
With a glut of these hazardous waste-containing monitors, recyclers will charge $20 or $25 to take them off your hands. Free no longer cuts it.
