Lawson Lake park installs upgrades

- By Madison Iszler

Lawson Lake County Park has a new amphitheater, playground and basketball court, Albany County Executive Daniel Mccoy announced Saturday.

The upgrades were installed through a partnership between the Albany County departments of Public Works, Recreation and General Services. A donation from Freihofer’s funded the playground.

“We really have come a long way since we reopened this park in 2013, and I think that’s clear to see today,” Mccoy said in a statement. “Projects like this give our children the opportunities to learn and grow, opportunities they may never get elsewhere, and that is the mission of County government.”

Other recent improvements to the park include a new visitor center, bathrooms, guardrails, a barn and parking lot and Waldman Lodge renovations. The enhancements would “not have been possible” without help from local unions, Boy Scout troops and volunteers, Mccoy said.

The 420-acre park is open year-round and hosts festivals, summer camps and other programs.
