Scotties hand Eagles first loss
Ballston Spa handed the Bethlehem boys’ soccer team its first loss of the 2018 campaign, 1-0, on Saturday in Ballston Spa.
Liam O’connell scored the game’s lone goal in the first half and the Scotties’ defense kept the Eagles off the board to move to 4-4-1 overall and 3-3-1 in the Suburban Council.
Bethlehem dipped to 7-1 overall and 4-1 in the Suburban with the loss. more boys’ soccer: Ichabod Crane shut out Columbia, 1-0, in a nonleague contest at Columbia. Giovanni Gomez had the goal for the Riders . ... Paul Lindsey’s goal in the 30th minute proved to be the only one of the game in a nonleague win for Lake George over Mayfield.
Girls’ soccer: Annabella Morrison scored twice and Lauren Deweese chipped in with a goal and an assist to help Burnt Hills coast to a 4-0 win over visiting Albany in a Suburban Council contest. Kelly Anderson and Hannah Ashcraft split goalkeeping duties to each earn a piece of the shutout victory for the Spartans, who evened their record at 3-3.
Girls’ volleyball: Amsterdam nipped Cambridge, 2-1, to win the Bulldog Early Bird Invitational at Berne-knox. Senior Nicole Derose was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player after leading the Rams to the first-place finish by scores of 25-22, 10-25 and 15-12 over the Indians.
