So the South End’s not good enough for you?

Albany Times Union - Sunday - - PERSPECTIVE -

A smart plan to give a boost to Albany’s South Pearl Street reveals what looks like bias on the part of Albany County’s two elections commissioners.

The plan is to relocate the county Board of Elections offices to the soon-to-be-vacant Department of Motor Vehicles site. GOP Commissioner Rachel Bledi says she and her Democratic counterpart, Matthew Clyne, are against it. Mr. Clyne declined comment.

Ms. Bledi calls the area dangerous, and says the office’s estimated 1,200 visitors annually would feel unsafe.

They shouldn’t. Plenty of people are unafraid to live and do good work there, including employees and volunteers at the Capital City Rescue Mission, staff at an elementary school across the street, and city firefighters, police and court employees — all within a block of the site.
