Dutchmen’s running game grinds out win over Rochester

Union rushes for 299 yards, including 175, 2 TDS by Irabor

Ike Irabor rushed for 175 yards and two touchdowns to lead Union to a 35-14 win over visiting Rochester on Saturday at Frank Bailey Field in Schenectad­y.

The Dutchmen scored the game’s first 35 points and coasted to the victory to move to 6-2 overall and 2-2 in the Liberty League.

Andre Ross Jr. hauled in a 2-yard touchdown pass from Will Bellamy, and Travis Demby had a 9-yard touchdown run to put Union in front 14-0 in the first quarter.

Irabor scored both of his touchdowns in the second quarter, the first on a 9-yard run and the second on a 43-yard run, to send the Dutchmen into halftime with a comfortabl­e 28-0 lead.

Packy Brown opened the scoring in the second half with a 5-yard touchdown reception from Bellamy to make it 35-0.

Rochester tacked on two fourth-quarter touchdowns, on Henry Josephson’s 4-yard catch and Stephen Glinski’s 10-yard reception, to close the game.

Union rushed for 299 yards, including 196 in the first half.

Rochester drops to 1-8 and 0-5 in league play.

The Dutchmen close out the regular season at noon Saturday against rival RPI in the Dutchman Shoes game.
