CA A’s James Madison advances

Dukes top league foe Delaware, match up against Colgate next

Harrisonbu­rg, Va. Ben Dinucci passed for 223 yards and a touchdown and the James Madison defense clamped down on Delaware for a 20-6 victory in a first-round FCS playoff game on Saturday.

The Dukes (9-3), making their 15th playoff appearance and a two-time national champion, will travel to play No. 8 seed Colgate (9-1) next Saturday riding a three-game winning streak.

The Dukes outgained the Blue Hens 316-185 and had a 15-minute advantage in time of possession against their fellow Colonial Athletic Associatio­n team. Southeast Missouri 28, Stony Brook 14: Daniel Santacater­ina threw for three touchdowns and ran for another and Southeast Missouri claimed its first FCS playoff victory in program history, scoring all its points in the third quarter to beat the team that Ualbany had upset last week. The Redhawks (9-3) will travel to Utah to face No. 2 seed Weber State next Saturday.

Duquesne 31, Towson 10: A.J. Hines turned a screen pass into a 71-yard touchdown for the lead, rushed for 175 yards and another score and Duquesne defeated Towson in a relentless downpour to advance to the second round. The Dukes (9-3), who lost to William & Mary in 2015 in their only other FCS playoff appearance, will travel again next Saturday, taking on No. 5 seed South Dakota State (8-2).

Wofford 19, Elon 7: Freshman Nathan Walker rushed for 90 yards and a touchdown, helping Wofford beat Elon to advance to the second round for the third season in a row. Wofford (9-3) will face No. 4 seed Kennesaw State (10-1) next week.

Montana State 35, Incarnate Word 14: Troy Andersen ran for a touchdown and threw for another to lead Montana State in the first round. His touchdown run was his schoolreco­rd 20th of the season.

Nicholls 49, San Diego 30: Chase Fourcade passed for 337 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 82 yards and two more scores to help Nicholls beat San Diego in the first round. The Colonels (9-3) play at No. 3 seed Eastern Washington next.

Northern Iowa 16, Lamar 13: Marcus Weymiller rushed for 128 yards, Trevor Allen ran for 112 and Austin Errthum kicked three field goals as Northern Iowa edged mistake-prone Lamar.

Jacksonvil­le State 34, East Tennessee State 27: Zerrick Cooper threw three touchdown passes to Shaq Davidson and Jacksonvil­le State held on. Jacksonvil­le State (9-3) will play at seventh-seeded Maine (8-3) in the second round on Saturday.
