Runners qualify for Nationals

The Saratoga girls’ cross country team qualified for the Nike Nationals with a 63-65 win over Fayettevil­lemanlius, and the Burnt Hills boys’ team also qualified with a second-place finish (28-78) to Fayettevil­lemanlius in the New York Regionals at Bowdoin Park in Wappingers Falls.

In the girls’ race,

Saratoga Springs’ Kelsey Chmiel (running for Kinetic Running Club) finished third in 18 minutes, 6.3 seconds for the 5-kilometer course, trailing only North Rockland’s Katelyn Tuohy (17:14.0) and Fayettevil­lemanlius’ Claire Walters (17:54.7).

Saratoga’s Ella Kurto was 11th (18:40.8), with Mckinley Wheeler (19:30.0), Emily Bush (19:34.7), Sheridan Wheeler (19:50.8), Ciara Knott (20:12.4) and Skyler Knott (20:20.2) completing the team that edged Manlius XC.

Shea Weilbaker of Saratoga Springs nearly added the New York Regional title to his state cross country title, losing out to Parker Stokes II of Maine-endwell by 0.6 seconds in the boys’ championsh­ip race.

Weilbaker, running under the team name Racing City RC, ran 15:51.6. He qualified for Nationals as an individual.

Tyler Berg of Burnt Hills was seventh in 16:07.0. He was joined by teammates Aidan Gillooley (16:31.0), Evan Brennan (16:37.5), Nick Hunziker (16:59.6), Kevin Board (17:09.7), David Metacarpa (17:19.6) and Dante Ubriaco (18:05.1) in the qualifying effort.

Boys’ basketball: Justice Brantley led Catskill to a 78-39 win over Spackenkil­l in tournament play, with 32 points and 11 rebounds. devon Haye followed with 16 points and 11 rebounds and Brevonis donely led in rebounds with 16 . ... Brian moore led Kingston to a 71-53 win over host Lansingbur­gh in the final of the Lansingbur­gh tournament, scoring 27 points. isaiah Knight led the Knights with 32 points, hitting seven 3-pointers.

Girls’ basketball: Bishop Gibbons defeated Schoharie 49-37 in a tournament matchup. Ava megyeri led Gibbons with 11 points. Schoharie was led by Julie Lehoe with 13 points . ... Amelia Wood led Averill Park to a 54-42 win over Shaker with 15 points. Kelsey Wood and emmalee morgan followed, both with 12 points. Kaelah Carter and Julia debeatham led Shaker with 10 points apiece.
