Parasite workshop scheduled Dec. 8
TROY— Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) of Rensselaer County will be holding a FAMACHA and Parasite Workshop from 9 a.m.to noon on Saturday, Dec. 8 at the CCE office at 61 State St.
During this workshop, Jason Detzel, CCE Ulster County and Kayela Statom, CCE Rensselaer County, will teach the basics of parasite control, as well as how to develop integrated parasite management programs for their farms.
Guests are encouraged to wear clean clothes and bring a refrigerated fecal sample of 8 to 10 fecal pellets from one sheep or goat at your farm to the workshop.
The cost is $20 and light refreshments will be served.

Holiday greens boutique planned
NEWTONVILLE— The Fort Orange Garden Club is hosting a Holiday Greens Boutique beginning at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6 at the Pruyn House Schoolhouse, 207 Old Niskayuna Road.
The event will feature centerpieces, hostess gifts, potted bulbs, wreaths and more.
The pre-sale fundraiser runs from 2-6 p.m. Thursday, $5 donation with purchase.
The event continues from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Hannaford sponsors free skate rentals
ALBANY— Hannaford Supermarkets will make it possible for individual and families to rent skates for free each Saturday during the 2018-2019 season beginning Saturday, Dec. 8 at the Empire State Plaza Ice Rink.
The rink will open at 4:30 p.m. Friday , weather permitting, and will feature live music and entertainment.
Skate rentals will also be free opening weekend.

Holiday Market to be held Dec. 2
ALBANY— The New York State Museum will host the Taste of NY Holday Market from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 2 at 222 Madison Ave.
The event will include 30 “made in New York” food and beverage vendors including, chocolates, cheese, maple products, craft beer, wine and more. There will also be cooking demonstrations, educational activities and a chocolate fountain station, courtesy of We Do Fondue and Price Chopper/market 32.

New drop-off shed set up at council
LATHAM— The
Knights of Columbus of Latham/colonie is raising funds to benefit its Council Home and other charitable programs with a new drop-off shed at 328 Troy Schenectady Road.
The on-going fundraiser will support organizations such as, Boy Scouts, Center for Disability Services, Community Maternity Services and local sports teams.
Acceptable drop-off items include: Used clothing, shoes, sneakers, belts, purses, linens, pillowcases, blankets, curtains, and stuffed animals.

Snowmobile club offers safety course
GRAFTON— The Grafton Trail Blazers Snowmobile Club and the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation will host a snowmobile safety course from 8:15 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8 at the Grafton VFW/FIRE Hall on South Road.
This course, taught by New York state certified volunteer instructor Jim Blessing, is designed for young people ages 10 to 18 and will cover topics like, New York state laws and regulations, riding skills, trail emergencies, protecting the environment, maintenance and repair, trailering and more. Adults are also invited to attend.
The class is free and lunch will be provided. Space is limited, advanced registration is required by Friday.
