Golden Knights squads sweep

The Col­lege of Saint Rose men’s bas­ket­ball team coasted to a 77-58 win over New Haven on Satur­day at Daniel P. Nolan Gym­na­sium in Al­bany.

“We re­ally played tough de­fense to­day and that was a big key with pro­vid­ing our of­fense some eas­ier op­por­tu­ni­ties in tran­si­tion,” Saint Rose head coach Mike Perno said. “We need to con­tinue to de­fend and re­bound, and I think the of­fense will take care of it­self.”

Fresh­man for­ward Sekou Sylla scored 24 points and pulled down 11 re­bounds to lead the Golden Knights, who moved to 3-4 over­all and 1-4 in the North­east-10 Con­fer­ence.

Ju­nior guard Eli­jah Bai­ley had 19 points for the Charg­ers, who suf­fered their first loss of the season and fall to 5-1 and 3-1 in league play.

The Saint Rose women earned a 65-53 vic­tory over vis­it­ing New Haven in Al­bany.

The Golden Knights im­proved to 4-3 and now sit at 2-3 in the North­east-10.

Ash­ley Van­der­wall led the of­fense with 18 points and Nina Fedullo added 11 points for Saint Rose.

Brie Per­gola scored 16 points for the Charg­ers, who dipped to 5-3 and 1-2 in the league.
