Engineers can’t muster any offense

No. 8 Notre Dame shuts down RPI to finish off a sweep

Albany Times Union - Sunday - - SPORTS -

Eighth-ranked Notre Dame dropped RPI for a second straight time, winning 3-0 on Saturday in a men’s college hockey clash in South Bend, Ind.

Cam Morrison gave the Irish all the offense they would need with his fourth goal of the season 4 minutes, 40 seconds into the first period.

The RPI offense struggled to get rolling in the first two periods, taking a combined 16 shots in the opening 40 minutes, compared to 31 for Notre Dame over the same span.

The Engineers’ attack put a little more pressure on Irish keeper Dylan St. Cyr in the third, but the goalie stopped each one of the 17 RPI shots taken in the final period to earn the shutout.

Notre Dame’s offense helped take some pressure off St. Cyr by adding two insurance goals in the third. Colin Theisen sent home his fifth goal of the year and Dylan Malmquist added an empty-net goal for the Irish to cap a twogoal third and close out the contest.

Notre Dame has now won six straight games.

Goalie Owen Savory stopped 38 shots for the Engineers.

RPI travels to New Haven, Conn., on Friday to take on Yale.
