Streaks seniors shine at nationals
Saratoga’s Chmiel 2nd in girls race; Weilbaker places 25th in boys race
Kelsey Chmiel of Saratoga Springs placed second at the girls’ Nike Cross Nationals on Saturday in Portland, Ore.
Chmiel, running for the Kinetic Running Club, finished with a time of 16 minutes, 54.8 seconds which was just behind rival Katelyn Tuohy (New
York-1) who won the race in 16:37.8. Other Kinetic finishers included Ella Kurto (45th18:01.9), Mckinley Wheeler (99th-18:43.9), Sheridan Wheeler (126th-19:04.2), Emily Bush (135th-19:11.0), Ciara Knott (157th-19:29.8) and Skyler Knott (161st-19:33.4).
Central Oregon was the top team with 120 points while Kinetic finished sixth with 228 points.
On the boys side, Saratoga’s Shea Weilbaker finished 25th with a time of 15:27.7 to lead all local runners.
Burnt Hills runners filled out the rest of the local field with Tyler Berg placing 32nd with a time of 15:33.6 and Aidan Gillooley finished 88th in 16:07.1. Other Spartans finishers included
Evan Brennan (96th-16:11.7), Nick Hunziker (155th-16:46.2), David Metacarpa (156th16:48.0), Kevin Board (165th16:51.6) and Dante Ubriaco (191st-17:17.5).
Purcellville took the top spot with 77 points while Burnt Hills placed 14th with 323 points.
Girls’ basketball: Junior Ahniysha Jackson snapped a three-pointer with three-seconds left in regulation to lift unbeaten Albany to a 61-59 win over host Saugerties in a non-league contest. Jackson finished with a gamehigh 14 points for the Falcons, who improved to 2-0 overall on the young season. Junasia Lanier added nine points for Albany . ... Amanda Godfrey led Fort Ann to a 52-24 win over Keene with 24 points, 12 rebounds and seven steals. Sarah Paige followed with nine points and Kayla Bailey with eight points, nine rebounds and nine steals.
Boys’ basketball: Gloversville outlasted Columbia Prep, 82-80, in a non-league game in Manhattan. Dante Bouchard scored 35 points and Joseph Rowback chipped in with 25 points for the Dragons . ... Carson Mosher hit a 3-pointer with 2.4 seconds left to play to give Greenwich a 71-70 win over Melone. Mosher finished with 12 points. John Walsh led with 25 points, going 9-for-11 from the free throw line and Jesse Kuzmich added 15 points.
