No. 1 Uconn holds off California

Huskies hand the Golden Bears their first loss of season

Katie Lou Samuelson had 20 points and 11 rebounds, and No. 1 Uconn held off a late rally from 14th-ranked and previously unbeaten California in a 76-66 win Saturday.

Napheesa Collier added 16 points, six rebounds and four assists in the Huskies’ 126th straight regularsea­son victory and 58th consecutiv­e in nonconfere­nce play. On Wednesday, Collier had 23 points and a career-high 17 rebounds to lead Uconn’s 12-point comeback win over Oklahoma, 72-63.

Samuelson, whose two older sisters played at

Cal rival Stanford, shot 9-for-14 as the Huskies (11-0) landed five players in double figures.

Notre Dame 87, Marquette 63: Arike Ogunbowale scored 32 points and Brianna Turner added 20 as second-ranked Notre Dame rolled to a victory over No. 19 Marquette. The

Irish (11-1) gained control by outscoring Marquette 25-11 in the second quarter for a 42-29 lead at the half.

Minnesota 91, Rhode Island 71: Kenisha Bell scored 28 points with nine assists, seven rebounds and two steals, Taiye Bello had a double-double and No. 13 Minnesota finished the nonconfere­nce season unbeaten. Destiny Pitts scored 19 points for the Golden Gophers (11-0) and Bello had her sixth double-double this season with 16 points and 15 rebounds.

Syracuse 57, UCF 52: Tiana Mangakahia scored 13 of her 15 points in the fourth quarter to rally No. 15 Syracuse past Central Florida at the St. Pete Shootout. Mangakahia scored the final 11 points for Syracuse (11-2) after Miranda Drummond buried a 3-pointer to pull the Orange even at 46 with 7:31 left. Mangakahia was 9-for-9 at the foul line in the final quarter. Kayla Thigpen, Masseny Kaba and Korneila Wright all scored 11 to pace the Knights (10-2), who are coached by former Ualbany coach Katie Abrahamson-henderson.
