Senior helps overcome late 11-point hole with 3 foul shots, 27 points
Catskill rallied from an 11-point deficit late in the fourth quarter to top Pine Bush 69-68 on Saturday to win the Kirvin Cup consolation game in a boys’ basketball nonleague matchup in Catskill.
Senior Justice Brantley was fouled attempting a 3-pointer with just 55 seconds left and hit all three free throws to give the Cats the one-point decision. Brantley finished with a gamehigh 27 points for Catskill, which improved to 10-2 on the
season. Devon Haye chipped in with 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Cats.
More boys’ basketball: Green Tech cruised to a 64-50 win over host Colonie in a nonleague game. Josh Rodriguez scored 15 points to lead Green Tech (5-3). Aaron Satin had 12 points for Colonie.
Girls’ basketball: Madison Graham scored 24 points to help Ichabod Crane roll past Peru 50-35 at the Ichabod Crane Winter Blast Tournament. The Riders raced out to a 14-0 advantage and coasted to the victory to move to 4-5 overall. Riley Paul chipped in with 17 points for Ichabod Crane . ... Avery Mills had 20 points to lift Mekeel Christian Academy over host Mohonasen 48-41 in the consolation game of the Mohonasen Holiday Classic Tournament. Utica-notre Dame topped Burnt
Hills 43-36 to win the championship game. Emma Sehring scored 18 to
lead Utica-notre Dame while Carlie Rzeszotarski had 17 for Burnt Hills.
... Queensbury outscored Columbia 42-20 in the second half to coast to a 64-38 nonleague win. Hope Sullivan scored 23 points to lead the Spartans . ... Hoosic Valley handed Maple Hill its first loss of the season, 44-27, to win the Maple Hill Holiday Hoopfest championship. Sami Dickinson scored 15 points to lead Hoosic Valley. Maple Hill dropped to 9-1.
Boys’ hockey: Dale Hammond scored two goals to lead CBA to a 4-3 win over North Rockland in a nonleague contest. Dylan Vanepps added a goal and an assist for the Brothers . ... Gary Blanchard’s overtime goal snapped a scoreless deadlock and gave Saratoga Springs a 1-0 win over visiting Pelham. The Blue Streaks outshot the Pelicans, 41-10, and finally broke through Pelham’s defense and keeper Saverio Battaglia at 4:26 of the extra period to pick up the victory.
