Lions get 31 points from Dejesus to top Bishop Kearney
The Mekeel Christian Academy boys’ basketball team defeated host Bishop Kearney 66-59 on Saturday in a nonleague clash.
Mekeel held a 39-32 halftime lead before outscoring Bishop Kearney 18-7 in the third quarter to put away the game.
Ozzie Dejesus dropped in 31 points to lead the Lions, who jumped to 7-3 on the year with the victory. Alex Barnhill chipped in with 22 points for Mekeel Christian.
Antwan Williams scored 23 points to lead Bishop Kearney.
More boys’ basketball: Mohonasen improved to 7-4 on the season with a 77-41 win over Guilderland in a nonleague matchup. Duncan Tallman scored 28 points and Chase Monroe added 17 for the Mighty Warriors, who ran away from the Dutchmen with a 22-7 second quarter which put Mohonasen in front 37-17 at halftime. Billy Lia had 14 points to lead Guilderland, which remains winless at 0-11 for the season. Girls’ basketball: Bethlehem won its third straight game, topping visiting Kingston
63-41 in a nonleague contest. The Eagles raced out to a commanding 37-12 halftime advantage and coasted to the win to improve to 5-6 on the season. Julia Harvey scored 14 points and Ava Laclair, Kiersten Murray and Maren Louridas each scored 10 points to show the way for Bethlehem . ... Nate Mannion scored a game-high 22 points and Rian Jewett added 12 as Maple Hill built an early lead and cruised to a 53-37 win over Rensselaer in a Patroon Conference game. Fred Wagner led the Rams with 11 points. Maple Hill led 27-17 at halftime.
