‘An Evening of Jazz Classics’ in Spencertown

-

Lincoln Mayorga and Rob Fisch will present “An Evening of Jazz Classics” at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 9, at the Spencertown Academy Arts Center, located at 790 State Route 203.

Part of the Spencertown Academy Concert Series, the program will include favorites written by Jerome Kern, Cole Porter and George Gershwin, with Mayorga on piano and Fisch on trumpet.

“This core genre is the primary basis for jazz reinterpretation and derivative works for the past century of American music,” said Fisch. “Many refer to this genre of music as the Great American Songbook, but I just call it great music.”

Capital Region jazz performers Rich Syracuse on bass and Gene Garone on drums will also take the stage.

Originally from California, Mayorga trained as a classical pianist. He began working as an arranger and accompanist in the late 1950s and his work ranges from classical musical to rock and jazz.

Fisch is a fixture in the local jazz community in northern New Jersey, Rockland and Westchester counties.

Garone has been a full-time performer for 47 years and can be heard on more than 30 recordings of jazz, pop, rock, country and Latin.

Syracuse has been a musical mainstay throughout New York for more than three decades. Tickets are $10-$20.
