Shen, Duanes­burg wrestlers tops at East­ern States meet

Shenen­de­howa’s Stevo Poulin took first place in the 106-pound divi­sion at the East­ern States wrestling tour­na­ment on Satur­day at SUNY Sul­li­van Com­mu­nity Col­lege in Loch Shel­drake.

Poulin clinched the bracket with an 11-0 ma­jor de­ci­sion over Dante Geis­linger of Nor­wich.

Zack Lawrence of Duanes­burg took first in the 152-pound bracket, tak­ing a 4-2 de­ci­sion in his cham­pi­onship match against Danny Mau­riello of Haup­pauge.

Lawrence’s Duanes­burg team­mate Char­lie Gry­gas was the only other Sec­tion II com­peti­tor to make the fi­nals, but Gry­gas was pinned by Kyle Mosher (South East Cy­clones) in 29 sec­onds to fall in the 160-pound bracket.

Guilder­land’s Cameron Du­rant lost his 182-pound quar­ter­fi­nal match, an 8-3 de­ci­sion to Ed­uard Dzhioev (Franklin D. Roo­sevelt) and Jake Stan­gle of Ball­ston Spa was pinned by Joey Slack­man (Com­mack) in 2:26 in his 285-pound quar­ter­fi­nal to round out the lo­cal com­peti­tors on Satur­day.

Girls’ bas­ket­ball: Troy erupted for 25 points in the fourth quar­ter to rally past host Kingston 53-45 in a non­league con­test. Jakaiya Dewer scored seven of her 13 points in the fourth to help the Fly­ing Horses outscore the Tigers 2513 in the fi­nal pe­riod to pick up the win. Je­nal­yse Alar­con had a team-best 14 points for Troy.

Boys’ bas­ket­ball: Al­bany Academy coasted to an 83-53 vic­tory over Col­le­giate. The Cadets raced out to a 46-28 half­time lead and cruised to the fin­ish line for the win. Au­gust Ma­honey hit seven 3-point­ers and fin­ished with a game-high 25 points while An­dre Jack­son chipped in with 16 points, 14 re­bounds and eight as­sists for Al­bany Academy.
