To make a student, hatch some eggs

-

There’s a saying that to make an omelet, you’ve got to break some eggs. For many schools, making a well-rounded student requires incubating and hatching a few. Eggs, that is. Now, though, one of the Assembly’s leading animal rights activists, Linda Rosenthal, D-manhattan, wants to ban the practice on the grounds it amounts to animal cruelty.

But local schools say the chicks are not mistreated or cruelly disposed of. Some give them to farms or families to care for or keep them on the grounds for tick control.

Perhaps this can be over easy by finding a happy medium, like a bill that requires a humane plan for the outcomes of these experiments.
