FORT EDWARD — A 20-year-old Saratoga County man was injured when his motorcycle crashed Friday afternoon on Route 197 in the town of Fort Edward, Washington County sheriff’s officials said.

Witnesses told deputies he was thrown from the bike and skidded along the road before hitting a power pole and coming to rest.

WILTON — State Police Saturday said a Lewis County man was killed in Friday afternoon’s fiery tractortrailer crash near Exit 16.

David H. Ferguson, 67, of Constableville was driving south on the highway when he veered into the median and crashed. No other vehicles were involved, and there were no other injuries.

The cause remains under investigation.

Anna Woods, 32, a former servant at the State Street home of James K. Dunscomb, was arrested for illegally entering the home by means of a duplicate key to the basement door and making her way to the private apartments of Mrs. Dunscomb, where she stole cash and jewelry valued at $5,000 (about $64,000 in today’s money). She allegedly shared the loot with a chauffeur with whom she was involved.

Albany Police Capt. Frank Lasch recalled that Woods had previously been employed as a domestic in the Western Avenue home of Gustavus Michaelis when there was a theft of $200 worth of property. At the time of her arrest, Woods’ handbag was searched and found to contain pawn

tickets for several of the items stolen from the Michaelis home.

“A hard line on campus terrorists” was urged by Dr. William P. Tolley, chancellor emeritus of Syracuse University, as he addressed commencement exercises of The College of Saint Rose at the Palace Theater. “It is difficult to be optimistic about the quality of American higher education in the immediate future. In many of our best universities, there has been a notable erosion of academic standards and performance,” he said. “From the evidence at hand, the deterioration in quality will continue.” Degrees were awarded to 332 graduates and undergraduates. Sister Susan M. Latus of Cassville was valedictorian and Sister Joan Lescinski of Colonie was salutatorian. Edwin B. Broderick, bishop of the Albany Catholic Diocese, presided.
