Driver going wrong way crashes on I-90, dies in Albany Med

ALBANY — City police say a driver traveling in the wrong lane on a I-90 ramp was killed after he collided with another car Friday night.

Police responded to the northbound ramp from Livingston Avenue to I-90 at 7 p.m. and found that two vehicles had been involved in a head-on crash and that both drivers were injured.

Police said it appears that a driver traveling the wrong way on the ramp westbound collided with a vehicle accessing the same westbound ramp.

The driver of the vehicle traveling the wrong way was treated at the scene by Albany firefighters and taken to Albany Medical Center Hospital where he died. The other driver was also taken to Albany Med with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are still investigating. The name of the deceased driver will not be released until proper notifications have been made, police said.

Welch also was found to have an open warrant with the police department stemming from a March 4 incident on West Harrison Street when he allegedly attacked a 40-year-old man by cutting his face with a knife.
