Trump targets people his administration devalues
There were protests across the country demanding states end restrictions and the economy be reopened. These protests occurred despite data showing increasing infections and polls showing a majority of the country supporting continued restrictions to stay safe.
The White House encouraged these protests. Why would President Donald Trump do that in the middle of a pandemic?
The demographics of the dying are elderly people, most in nursing homes, on Medicare; many minorities; some homeless; there also were those who are impoverished and on Medicaid; immigrants; people in blue states — all the people to whom this White House has shown indifference, even hostility.
The White House encouraged the protests as a means to help Big Business/wall Street. They do not care about their own estimates of the potential for a sharp increase in deaths because they do not care about the people who will mostly be affected. They consider the death of these people “culling the handout herd.”
Whatever happened to:
“Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!” would revert to lying about how many have died to reduce the number. Remember that President Donald Trump defined a win against COVID-19 as deaths below 100,000. Anything that negatively impacts Trump must be disavowed, declared fake news, a hoax, whatever, and a high death rate due to COVID-19 is an indictment of the administration’s incompetence.
The idea that Trump and his supporters would disrespect those who have died from this disease to bolster their political fortunes is a low that I thought would be out of bounds for decent people. Obviously, my expectations regarding Trump and his party need to be updated to accommodate a new reality. Denying the number who died from COVID-19 helps Trump’s insistence that his management was and is beyond reproach and that the economy should open up.
If you can get a lot of people to doubt the reality, then getting them to return to work without the system and equipment in place to protect them is easier. Consider that any idea of coming up with a cohesive strategy backed by a detailed plan is beyond the scope of this administration.
Trump needs the people to forget about 100,000-plus dead Americans and for the economy to work again to be re-elected. If the cost is tens of
