Best ways to clean during pandemic
Today, with the national health crisis, household cleaning has taken on a new meaning and is important for the safety of our families.
As a reminder of how to clean the best way, I have checked with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and here’s some info from them, which is what I have been writing about in my column.
Cleaning versus Disinfecting: Cleaning is the removal of dirt, germs or impurities from surfaces. This does not kill germs, but by removing them, it will lower the amount of them and also the risk of spreading infection.
Disinfecting refers to using approved household chemicals that kill germs on surfaces after cleaning. This can lower the risk of spreading infection.
Right now you should continue routine cleaning, but pay attention to frequently touched surfaces, such as doorknobs, light switches, handles, toilets, sinks, desks and tables.
And give all your electronics — tablets, screens, phones, remote controls, keyboards — extra cleaning attention too. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for all cleaning and disinfecting products. And dry surfaces thoroughly when done.
Grilling outdoors is such a big part of the summer. Here’s a flavorful marinade you can use on fish, meat or poultry. It will add a bit of zest to your main course.
■ Mix thoroughly. Put four chicken breasts or pork chops in a sealable plastic bag and pour in the marinade. Seal and put in the refrigerator for 4 to 24 hours. Then pop on the grill.
Our garages are packed with all the tools and equipment that we use for caring for our gardens, lawns, backyard and property. Keeping it organized and trying to corral it all can be time-consuming. Here’s an easy way to deal with this.
Try this: Buy several metal garbage cans on wheels. You can store long-handled or larger tools in them. Then place S-hooks on the rims for hanging smaller tools. Then, when you need to tackle your outdoor work, just wheel out your equipment for all yard jobs.
