Watson agrees to four-year extension with Houston

Texans’ signal-caller 2nd-highest paid QB with $160M contract

Deshaun Watson has agreed to a four-year, $160 million contract extension with the Houston Texans.

The deal makes Watson the second-highest paid quarterbac­k in the league, behind Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes, who signed a 10year deal worth up to $503 million in July.

Bills: Buffalo locked up starting cornerback Tre’davious White through the 2025 season by signing him to a four-year extension.

... Receivers Andre Roberts, Duke Williams and Robert Foster were released.

Jets: Joe Flacco passed his physical and will start the season on the active roster as one of Sam Darnold’s backups. The Jets had three surprise cuts in center/guard Jonotthan Harrison, linebacker James Burgess, and cornerback Nate Hairston. Cornerback Bryce Hall, a fifth-round pick, was placed on the active/non-football injury list.

49ers: San Francisco activated starting receiver Deebo Samuel from the non-football injury list, and released defensive end Dion Jordan, safety Johnathan Cyprien, linebacker Joe Walker and cornerback Jamar Taylor.

Browns: Cleveland made 24 cuts to get to the league’s mandated 53-man limit, releasing a few notable names, including defensive end Chad Thomas and Damion Ratley, draft picks in 2018, and running back Dontrell Hilliard, who handled return duties last season.

Cardinals: Linebacker Evan Weaver, cornerback Chris Jones and running back D.J. Foster are among 16 players cut by Arizona.

Chargers: Keenan Allen signed a four-year, $80 million extension that will make him the second-highest paid receiver in average money.

Chiefs: Kansas City waived running back Deandre Washington and safety Adrian Colbert.

Cowboys: Dallas released two veterans who played all 16 games for them last season in cornerback C.J. Goodwin and linebacker Justin March.

Dolphins: Miami released QB Josh Rosen, who was acquired from Arizona in April 2019 for secondand fifth-round draft picks . ... Versatile rookie Lynn Bowden Jr. and a sixth-round draft pick were acquired by Miami from Las Vegas for a fourth-round choice.

Falcons: Atlanta cut former firstround pick Laquon Treadwell and two quarterbac­ks, Kurt Benkert and recently signed Kyle Lauletta.

Jaguars: Rookie Jake Luton has won the backup quarterbac­k job. Jacksonvil­le cut veteran Mike Glennon and waived Josh Dobbs.

Lions: Detroit cut long snapper Steve Wirtel.

Packers: Green Bay cut wide receiver Jake Kumerow, offensive lineman Alex Light and linebacker Tim Williams.

Panthers: Carolina waived running back Reggie Bonnafon.

raiders: Las Vegas released receiver Marcell Ateman, special teams player Kyle Wilber, receiver

Keelan Doss, linebacker Justin Phillips and offensive lineman Lester Cotton.

rams: L.A. placed defensive tackle A’shawn Robinson on the reserve/non-football injury list and put linebacker Travin Howard on injured reserve.

Saints: New Orleans waived veteran defensive linemen Mario Edwards Jr. and Margus Hunt while keeping veteran linebacker Kiko Alonso on the physically unable to perform list.

Seahawks: Seattle released linebacker/defensive end Shaquem Griffin and terminated the contract of wide receiver Paul Richardson.

Steelers: Pittsburgh cut former first-round pick QB Paxton Lynch and wide receiver Ryan Switzer.

titans: Outside linebacker Vic Beasley Jr. passed his physical and now is on the active roster. Tennessee also released QB Trevor Siemian, who was signed Aug. 19. They also waived linebacker D’andre Walker, their fifth-round pick of 2019 who spent last season on injured reserve. Cornerback­s Tye Smith, Chris Milton and Kareem Orr were waived along with running back Jeremy Mcnichols.

Vikings: Minnesota placed linebacker Ben Gedeon on the physically unable to perform list. Backup center Brett Jones was the only vested veteran who had his contract terminated.

washington: Alex Smith made the initial 53-man roster, another significan­t step in his remarkable comeback 22 months since breaking his right leg.
