Neumeister big in varsity debut

Tosses shutout for Shaker in 1st start; Kraft drives in run

In her first varsity start, Kaitlin Neumeister pitched a complete-game shutout to lead Shaker to a 1-0 win over visiting Bethlehem on Saturday in a Suburban Council softball contest.

Neumeister allowed five hits and struck out one to outduel Bethlehem’s Anna Cleary and post the win. Cleary also tossed seven innings, fanning 10 while allowing just one hit, for the Eagles.

Taylor Kraft drove in the lone run for Shaker in the first inning.

Baseball: Devin Garland tossed a complete-game onehit shutout to lead Mechanicvi­lle to an 11-0 win over Stillwater in Wasaren League action. William Coreno and Ryan Grimmick both drove in two runs for the Red Raiders (2-0, 1-0) . ... Ty Santabarba­ra allowed only two hits and struck out nine as Guilderlan­d beat Saratoga 4-1 for its first victory of the young season. Ben Gilbert had two hits and scored two runs. Patrick Deschaine hit a solo home run for Saratoga’s run.

Boys’ lacrosse: Caleb Jacobson scored seven goals to spark Guilderlan­d to a 13-7 win over Saratoga. The game was tied at 4 at halftime, but the Dutchmen erupted for eight goals in the third quarter to blow open the game. James Meier and Tyler Fung combined on 10 saves in the Dutchmen cage. Huck Patton had a hat trick for the Blue Streaks . ... JD Townsend scored six goals and had six assists to lead undefeated Burnt Hills past CBA 17-4 in another Suburban Council matchup. Kevin Carney chipped in with five goals and two assists for the Spartans, who improved to 3-0 on the season with the victory.

Girls’ lacrosse: Shannon Coyle scored nine goals and Abby Messick added four more as Colonie crushed Ballston

Spa 21-8 in a Suburban Council game . ... Avery Jones scored six goals and had three assists to help Bethlehem roll past Shaker 18-3 in more Suburban action. Lauren Riker contribute­d four goals and an assist to the Eagles’ win.
