The second annual Malta Food Fest was hosted by the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce earlier this year at TEC-SMART in Malta. Two-hundred available dinners were sold out before the evening began. The event raised more than $6,900 and the Ballston Spa school district extends a sincere thank you to all the sponsors, supporters, the Saratoga County Chamber and participat­ing restaurant­s.

Bob Belber, general manager at ASM Global/ Times Union Center, has been reaching out to business leaders from the Capital Region and beyond to assist with a philanthro­pic competitio­n to support blood cancer research. Belber is participat­ing in a 10-week campaign for the title of Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Man and Woman of the Year Albany. The campaign ends June 4 and honors two local children who are blood cancer survivors. Belber’s goal is to raise $50,000 for the society. Also, a “Rock to Raise” for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, an in-person event, is 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday at the Albany Capital Center, with social distancing. In celebratio­n of Military

Appreciati­on Month, the SUNY Empire State College Office of Veteran and Military Education hosted a contactles­s donation drive to benefit organizati­ons that support U.S. military veterans in our communitie­s. The drives, held at three SUNY Empire locations in Saratoga Springs, Selden and Rochester helped raise awareness of veterans’ needs and supplied critical food and personal items for veterans. The drives collected 212 food and personal hygiene items for veterans throughout the state.

The Glens Falls Hospital medical staff contribute­d $20,000 to the Landon Del Toro Education Fund after his mother, registered nurse Kristin Stevenson, who died in a snowstorm this past winter. The goal was to honor Kristin’s legacy, and to assist her only child, Landon, and help secure his

future. They will provide Landon with education expenses. The financial firm Legacy Planning Partners stepped in to manage the fund. On May 5, Dr. Christophe­r Mason, president of the hospital

medical staff, announced a major gift to the fund – and a challenge to all of the individual members of the medical staff to at least double this $20,000.

Fifty Girl Scouts from Colonie, Guilderlan­d, Delmar and Glens Falls engaged in a clothing reuse and recycle event with Athleta, a retailer of women’s activewear, with a mission of empowering women and girls and a focus on sustainabi­lity in environmen­tal impact.

STRIDE Adaptive Sports was awarded a $2,000 grant from the United States Tennis Associatio­n to send local adaptive

tennis players to Special Olympics competitio­n. It will an upcoming tennis program as well as the Special Olympic participat­ion.

Ballston Spa National Bank

and the Regional Food Bank of Northeaste­rn New York is hosting its 14th contactles­s drive-thru food pantry beginning at 9:30 a.m. Monday. The event, which will be held at 990 Route 67 in Ballston Spa, is open to area families and individual­s in need of food assistance. Patrons will receive food on a first-come, firstserve­d basis, while supplies last.
