Motorists advised to watch for signaling at Columbia Turnpike

The state Department of Transporta­tion is advising motorists to watch for an around-the-clock single right lane closure beginning Monday, May 17, on eastbound U.S. Routes 9 and 20 (Columbia Turnpike) be--

tween Elliot Avenue and Park Avenue in East Greenbush. Work will be done on sidewalks.

The lane closure is scheduled to be in place for about a month.

History professor, author to be honored Tuesday

Trust will award Annette Gordon-reed, an awardwinni­ng author and history professor, the 2021 Empire State Archives and History Award at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 18 both virtually and in person at the University Club of Albany.

Harvard History Professor Gordon-reed is known for her research on Thomas Jefferson and Sally

Hemings, and her Pulitzer Prize winning biography, The Hemingses of Monticello: An American Family and her latest book, On Juneteenth.

The public is invited to hear her speak about her career with Lincoln scholar and Archives Partnershi­p Trust Board Member, Harold Holzer.

Nomination­s accepted for preservati­on awards

ALBANY — In honor of May being Preservati­on Month, Historic Albany Foundation is accepting nomination­s / applicatio­ns for its 2021 Preservati­on Merit Awards.

Since 1976, the foundation has given annual awards to projects, individual­s and organizati­ons demonstrat­ing best practices, excellence, and a commitment to preservati­on techniques and initiative­s.

The Preservati­on Merit Awards will be presented in conjunctio­n with the HAF Annual Meeting

Sept. 23 at the newly renovated Kenmore Ballroom.

Principal chosen for West Sand Lake Elementary school

Keri Rosher was appointed as the new principal at West Sand Lake Elementary School by the Averill Park Board of Education.

Rosher is currently an elementary school assistant principal in the Schodack school district, where

she has led building-wide initiative­s in literacy, mental health and socialemot­ional learning. She also spent six years at Guilderlan­d schools, working as a K-5 reading specialist and language arts coordinato­r. She was also the principal for Guilderlan­d’s K-12 summer special education program. She began her career in education working as a teacher at Hoosic Valley schools.
