Krempa’s goals lead Johnstown
Cole Krempa scored twice as Johnstown rallied for a 3-2 win over Scotia in a field hockey game at at Knox Field in Johnstown.
Krempa tied the game with 13:25 left when she picked off a pass at the 25, dribbled in and beat Tartans goaltender Maya Westbrook. Krempa scored the go-ahead goal a little over a minute later when she won a 50/50 ball at the 25, dribbled into the circle and beat Westbrook with a hard drive from the top of the circle.
Olivia Geniti scored both Scotia goals on assists from Angelina Regals. Geneti scored seven minutes into the game to give Scotia the early lead. After Kalena Eaton tied the game on a tipped ball, Geniti put Scotia back up in the third on a drive from the top of the circle.
Johnstown (2-0, 2-0) held a 14-3 advantage in penalty corners.
Boys’ soccer: Liam Armstrong scored two goals as Schuylerville picked up its first league win with a 4-0 win at Hudson Falls. Ryan Piteri opened the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 20th minute. Armstrong scored in the 39th and 75th minutes. Reid Rockhill also scored for the Black Horses (2-2-0, 1-1-0) . ... Gloversville scored three goals in the second
half to pull away for a 4-0 win over Scotia. Thomas Kluska, Bryen Belknap, Douglas Cook and James Collar scored for the Dragons. Justin Kemmett made three saves to earn the shutout . ... Queensbury (3-2, 3-0) remained perfect in the Foothills Council after a 3-2 win at Glens Falls. Jude JordiDonnelly scored the go-ahead goal on a penalty kick in the second half. Gavin Kelly added an insurance goal in the 75th minute on a blast from the top of the box.
Girls’ soccer: Alayna Fletcher had another big game, this time scoring five goals to lead Maple Hill to an 8-0 win over Taconic Hills.
Football: Dylan Winchell and Tim Kelly rushed for two touchdowns apiece as WarrensburgNorth Warren shut out Helderberg Valley 66-0 in Class D action. Winchell and Kelly were part of a rushing attack that gained 308 yards and scored seven touchdowns. Winchell finished with 91 yards and four carries while Kelly gained 67 yards on three carries. Winchell also caught a 26-yard touchdown, the team’s only reception in the game.
