Autumn strolls in Saratoga Springs
SARATOGA SPRINGS — Take a guided tour of part of the city 10:30 a.m. to noon Sundays this fall and learn about history, architecture and people.
The Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation sponsors the walks. Tickets $20 each, $15 for SSPF members. The schedule:
■ Sunday, Historic Fifth and Madison. Debbie Studwell will lead a tour of these grand residential streets lined with elegant Queen Anne and craftsman homes. Meet at northeast corner of Fifth and Nelson avenues
■ Sept. 19, Historic Congress Park. Charlie Kuenzel explores the historic landscape architecture of the park, shares the history of Saratoga and its springs and highlights the Canfield Casino. Meet at Congress Park in front of Canfield Casino.
■ Oct. 3, Mail-order houses of Saratoga. Madison C. Squires leads a tour of East and Pinewood avenues, highlighting the “kit house” era when a person could order and receive a house to assemble. Meet at northwest corner of Lake and East avenues.
■ Oct. 17, Pups for Preservation: North Broadway. Samantha Bosshart leads the tour. Dogs and humans welcome. Meet at the northwest corner of North Broadway and Van Dam Street.
■ Oct. 24, Down in the Valley: Exploring the Gut. Alexandra Morgan leads a tour of the neighborhood known as “The Gut,” home to workingclass and Jewish families who contributed to the community. Meet at the northwest corner of Putnam and Spring streets at Hathorn Spring.
