Woman accused in Rotterdam dispute

ROTTERDAM — State Police said they arrested a Rotterdam woman, 37, after a verbal dispute turned physical last week.

Shortly after midnight on Monday, police were called by a person seeking help after being involved in a domestic dispute. The suspect is accused of striking the victim and taking a phone as the person tried to call for help. The woman used a hammer to break a locked bedroom door to get at the victim, then choked the victim and made threats with the hammer and a knife, troopers said. Two children were present at the time. The victim was eventually able to drive to the nearest police station, troopers said.

The woman, arrested at home, was charged with obstructio­n of breathing, criminal mischief, menacing, weapon possession, criminal contempt and endangerin­g the welfare of a child, all misdemeano­rs.

She posted $1,000 bail and was released pending a court appearance Monday.
