Setters outpace Golden Knights
Saint Rose men’s win streak ends; Women lose seventh straight
The College of Saint Rose men’s basketball team had its four-game winning streak come to an end with a 73-56 loss to visiting Pace on Saturday at Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium in Albany.
The Setters coasted out to a comfortable 42-26 lead by halftime and cruised to the finish line with the victory.
Brandon Jacobs had 15 points, Bryan Powell and Dominick Cristiano added 13 points apiece and Austin Gilbertson chipped in with 12 points to lead a balanced Pace offense. The Setters climbed to 14-8 overall and 10-5 in the Northeast-10 Conference with the win.
Saint Rose was held to just 3-of-21 (14.3-percent) from 3point territory.
Eric Fleming scored 15 points and Cartier Bowman had 13 points for the Golden Knights, who dropped to 10-8 overall and 7-6 in league action.
On the women’s side, Pace claimed its third consecutive victory and moved to 17-4 on the season with a 70-62 win over Saint Rose.
The Golden Knights have dropped seven straight games with their last win coming on Dec. 18, a 52-51 win against Saint Michael’s. Saint Rose sits at 3-13 overall and 3-10 in the Northeast-10 Conference.
The Golden Knights held a slim one-point advantage, 41-40, at the start of the fourth quarter but the Pace offense erupted for 30 points to run away with the victory.
Lauren Schetter scored 33 points, including a 13-of-26 from-the-field shooting performance, to lead the Setters. Pace improved to 12-3 in conference play with the win.
Nina Fedullo had 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Saint Rose.
The men and women are back in action on Tuesday as they both travel to take on New Haven. The women tip off at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men’s game at 7:30 p.m.
