Virus cases top 60,000
Albany Co. records 2 more deaths, and 158 new infections
New COVID-19 cases in the Capital Region’s most populous county in the past two days have put the total number of residents who have been infected in the nearly two years of the pandemic at more than 60,000.
Albany County Executive Dan McCoy noted the figure — 60,202 confirmed cases —in Saturday’s daily update. Albany County had 314,800 residents according to the 2020 Census. Since Friday, 158 new coronavirus cases have been identified, with the seven-day average new daily positive cases dropping to 182.8.
McCoy also reported two more deaths of county residents from the disease: A woman in her 80s and another in her 90s. The total of deaths is 518 for the county. Five new hospitalizations were reported overnight. In total, 69 county residents are hospitalized with COVID-19, McCoy said. The total number of hospital patients in the intensive care unit has decreased and stands at 10.
