The Siena women’s lacrosse team throttled New Hampshire 18-6, making head coach Abigail Rehfuss the all-time program leader in wins, while the men’s lacrosse team fell on the road to Long Island University 14-7.

After surrendering the first goal of the game a minute into the contest, freshman Grace Dobrzynski got the Saints on the board for the first of four straight tallies before UNH could respond, giving Siena a 4-2 lead after the first period in Durham, N.H.

Siena scored seven more in the second quarter, taking an 11-5 lead into halftime and coasting from there. Grad student Nicole McNeely led the way for the Saints as one of five players to score three goals. She also dished out three assists.

With the win, Rehfuss now has 32 victories for Siena, while also helping the Saints to improve to 6-20 in season openers.

In Brookville, the Siena men struggled offensively in the first half, trailing 6-1 at the break, before finding a rhythm in the second half in a nonleague loss to the Sharks.

With LIU scoring the first six goals, senior midfielder Seth Van Schepen finally broke through for Siena with 21 seconds remaining before halftime.

Senior midfielder Christian Watts led the Saints with three goals in the second half, but it wasn’t enough for Siena, which fell to 18-44 in season openers.

The Saints men play their first home game on Feb. 19 when they host Providence. The game is set for 11 a.m. at Hickey Field.

The Siena women play next on Friday when they travel to face Pittsburgh. The game is set to start at 5 p.m.
