ALBANY — Donald C. Killoran, a loving father and husband, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2022, at the age of 87.

Don was born on June 4, 1936, in Hartford, Conn., the youngest and only son of four children, to Lawrence Killoran and Helen McCarthy Killoran. He graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1958, where he met his love of his life, Ruth Killoran.

Don married Ruth in 1959, and they were married for 62 years. They made their home in the Albany area where they raised their two children and enjoyed many special memories with family and friends. His family and friendships were very important to him. The Adirondack Mountains and the family camp were a special place for Don where he loved having friends and family enjoy the mountains and lakeside. He was a patron of the arts, with jazz and Willie Nelson a highlight.

Don was a cheerful and a friendly man, known for telling jokes and stories and always having a great time. He was a hard worker and always gave full effort to his endeavors. He passed this work ethic on to his children and grandchildren. Don enjoyed a game of golf, cheering on his alma mater, and was an avid reader. He always enjoyed a good meal, especially fried clams and ice-cream.

Don went on to have a successful career in the insurance industry, first with Travelers Insurance and then Continental. He was often sought out for his wisdom and advice. He was a true mentor to many.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruth Killoran of Guilderland; his daughter, Paige Katzenstein and husband, Michael, of Beverly, Mass.; his son, Steve Killoran and wife Sue of Calais, Vt.; and four grandchildren, Ben Katzenstein of Raleigh, N.C., Andrew Katzenstein of Boston, Nik Killoran of Whitefish, Mont., and Chris Killoran of Manhattan.

The burial service was private. A celebration of Don’s life will be held in spring 2022, details to follow.

Donations may be made in Don’s memory to: the Guilderland Public Library, 2228 Western Ave, Guilderland, NY, 12084.
