Nolan, Joseph R.
ALBANY — Joseph R. Nolan of Albany, passed away peacefully at Albany Medical Center on January 31, 2022.
He was born on May 3, 1927, in Scranton, Pa.
Joe was the son of the late George and Mary Nolan. He graduated in 1945, from Scranton Technical High School. He moved to Albany in 1956, with his family, to begin working at Williams Press where he worked until 1968. He then joined the New York State Department of Transportation in the materials lab. He retired in 1985 to spend more time with his grandchildren.
Joe is survived by his sister, Dorothy Larsen of Scranton, Pa., and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his son, Daniel (Sally) of Loudonville, and their children, Philip (Jamie) of Brooklyn, and Victoria (Jeffrey) Ruderman of Latham. He is also survived by his great-granddaughter, Ella Paige Nolan. Family gatherings were Joe’s great joy in life. He was happiest when he was spending time with his family, including Sally’s sister, Mina Brandes and her daughter, Roslyn (Jon) Zurmuhlen.
Joe lived in Colonie on the Surcingle for 66 years where he had a lifelong friendship with his neighbors, Jim and Judy Lauraine and their family. Joe’s family would also like to express their appreciation to all of the neighbors on the Surcingle who looked out for Joe in the last few years.
The family wishes to thank the dedicated medical professionals at Albany Medical Center for their compassionate care of Joe.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
