WATERFORD — Pompeo Ferracane passed from this life on Friday, February 18, 2022, in the comfort of his home surrounded by the love of his family. He was 63 years old.

Pompeo was born in Muro Lucano, Province of Potenza, Italy, the youngest son of Maria (Silveri) Ferracane of Colonie and the late Antonio Ferracane who passed from this life on October 13, 2019.

In 1964, at the age of five, Pompeo sailed to the United States with his family aboard the Italian Steamship Christophe­r Columbus and arrived at Ellis Island. Following a short stay in New York City, the family made their way north to the Capital District and settled in Colonie. Pompeo was raised in Colonie and was a 1978 graduate of Colonie Central of Colonie Central High School where he was captain of the football team in his senior year.

For 20 years, Pompeo was employed by Seaboard Auto Service, a branch of Volkswagen of America, at the Port of Albany. He began his career as a security guard and through hard work, and dedication, retired as secretary, treasurer and a corporate officer. More recently, he was employed by the Shenendeho­wa Central School District in Clifton Park as a warehouse manager and purchasing agent and retired due to illness after twenty-four years of service.

Pompeo was a member of the West Albany Italian Benevolent Associatio­n. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed thoroughbr­ed race horses. He will long be remembered for his love for his family and his dedication to hard work.

In addition to his mother, Pompeo is survived by his wife, Theresa M. (Grattan) Ferracane; his children, Ryan (Danielle) Ferracane, Julie (Steve) Shipp and Jenna (Jason) Hoch; his stepchildr­en, Courtney (Jason) Trembley and Shana Barry; his grandchild­ren, Desiree, Dane, Mariah, Brody, Blake, Ava, Olivia, Ryleigh, Skylar, and Emily; his brothers, Michael (Gail) Ferracane and Gerardo (Cindy) Ferracane, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A funeral Mass for Pompeo will be celebrated on Tuesday, at 11:30 a.m. in St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Waterford and interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends are invited to attend and may also visit with Pompeo’s family on Monday, from 4 until 7 p.m. at Bowen & Parker Bros. Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Road (between Park Avenue and Eva Street), Latham.
