A kidnapping tale

-

Mrs. Carlos Barente of Watervliet, who had been missing for several days and who was believed to have eloped with another man, returned to town and told police a thrilling tale of how she had been forced to go to New York City with a person whose name she had not divulged. She said she had been taken to a house on 146th Street in Manhattan by a man and held there against her will. According to Barente, the day before her arrival back in Watervliet, her alleged kidnapper tired of the situation and giving her $15 told her to “beat it.” She came home to her husband as quickly as she could and promised to swear out a warrant for the man she claimed abducted her.
