Bandits deal blow to FireWolves’ playoff hopes

- Sports staff

Kyle Buchanan’s goal 22 seconds into sudden death overtime gave Buffalo a stunning 12-11 win over Albany on Saturday in a National Lacrosse League clash at MVP Arena in Albany.

After former UAlbany standout Connor Fields put Buffalo ahead 11-10, another former Great Dane — Joe Resetarits — evened the game with a goal at the 13-minute, 23-second mark of the final quarter to force the extra period.

But the Bandits didn’t make the FireWolves’ first experience in an overtime game a pleasant one, sending Albany home quickly when Buchanan fired a rebound shot past keeper Doug Jamieson.

The loss is especially tough for the FireWolves as they dip to 5-7 and are currently on the outside looking in at the playoffs. Ryan Benesch and Resetarits both had four goals and three assists to lead Albany

Dhane Smith had three goals and five assists for Buffalo, which sits atop the NLL East standings at 9-1.
