Skiing: Mikaela Shiffrin and Petra Vlhova are set for a nervewrecking duel for the overall title at the World Cup Finals next week after both missed the podium in the penultimate slalom. The American will take a 56-point lead over the defending champion from Slovakia into the finals, which features one race in each of the four disciplines. Vlhova was second after the opening run but dropped to fourth, while Shiffrin lost five positions in the final run and finished ninth in the race won by Katharina Liensberger of Austria. Ninth was Shiffrin’s worst result in a World Cup slalom since October 2014, apart from three DNFs in this period. It was the first

His second place also helped Odermatt to close in on the overall title. He stretched his lead to 269 points over his closest challenger, Norwegian speed specialist Aleksander

Aamodt Kilde, who was skipping the race weekend in Slovenia. Kilde was also in the race for the downhill title and opted to prepare for the downhill race at the World Cup Finals in France on Wednesday.
