Volunteers needed for DEC programs
Volunteers can assist in the Department of Environmental Conservation’s spring 2022 study on eels in streams from New York City to Albany County.
This requires mostly outdoor field work from late March through May, with flexible schedules. Participants gain field experience, study species in the living environment and work with their local communities.
To volunteer at the Hannacroix Creek site in New Baltimore, email or call Kelsey West of CCE Columbia- Greene at kjw228@cornell.edu, 518-622-9820, Ext. 112.
For all other locations, email or call Sarah Mount of NYSDEC at sarah.mount@dec.ny.gov, 845-889-4745 x106.
Volunteers are also sought for the state Department of Environmental Conservation’s Amphibian Migrations and Road Crossings Project, which was initiated by the Hudson River Estuary Program and Cornell University to raise awareness about critical amphibian habitat, engage volunteers to help collect data on the annual migration, and reduce amphibian road mortality.
See the DEC website for ways to help.
