— Eugene J. Phelps, 67 of Pruyn Hill Road, died peacefully in the comfort of his home on March 9, 2022, surrounded by his loving and faithful family.

A lifelong resident of the Mechanicvi­lle/Halfmoon area, he was born in Troy on October 13, 1954, the son of the late John "Jack" and Joan Provancher Phelps. He was a 1972 graduate of Mechanicvi­lle High School. Gene worked at G.E./ Momentive Performanc­e Materials for 41 years, working as a pipe fitter, fireman, and E.M.T., throughout his career, retiring in 2015. Geno gave a lot to his communitie­s, beginning as a volunteer fireman with Hemstreet Park Fire Dept. and later with Hillcrest Fire Dept., where he was a lifetime member. He was a longtime volunteer E.M.T. with John Ahearn Rescue Squad and had taught an E.M.T. class for Saratoga County. He was also a longtime member of the Mechanicvi­lle Stillwater Elks Lodge 1403. Gene was very active and supportive in the local recovery community. His dedication to its cause helped so many people. Gene was an avid outdoorsma­n who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved the time he spent with family and friends, especially those shared at his Keene, N.Y. camp. Above all else though, he cherished the time he spent with his wife, children, and grandchild­ren and was proud of all their accomplish­ments. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Sharon McBride Phelps, whom he married on February 8, 1974; his sons, James (Erica) Phelps, Jason and Daniel Phelps, all of Halfmoon; adored grandchild­ren, Alexandra Phelps , Ava Phelps, Emmie Phelps, Italia Izzo, Ava LaMarche, and Caden LaMarche; as well as his siblings, Marc (Julia) Phelps, Marjorie (Richard) Mendez, and Christian Phelps. He is also survived by his wife’s loving McBride family, including his father-in-law, Joseph (Carole) McBride and his family, and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held at All Saints on the Hudson Church, 121 N. Main St, Mechanicvi­lle, on Tuesday, March 15, from 4-7 p.m. with funeral service folmanager
