Red Foxes beat Saints with 2 late goals

Marist rallied for two goals in the final 1 minute, 38 seconds of the game to nip visiting Siena 11-10 on Saturday in a MAAC men’s lacrosse clash in Poughkeeps­ie.

The Red Foxes trailed 10-9 before Kellen Pulera’s goal pulled the teams even with 1:38 left in the fourth quarter.

Marist won the faceoff following the game-tying tally and took the lead for good when Jojo Pirreca found the net with only 32 seconds remaining. Siena rallied from a 9-8 deficit earlier in the period with goals from Dylan Pape at 10:51 and Tyler Menniti at 9:10 to take the 10-9 lead. The Saints held the advantage right until the closing moments when Pulera changed the momentum.

Pirreca had three goals and two assists and James Lyons added four goals for the Red Foxes, who snapped a five-game losing streak and improved to 2-6 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

Jack Kiernan scored three goals and Menniti finished with two goals and an assist to lead Siena, which dipped to 2-7 overall and 0-2 in the MAAC.

The Saints will look to grab their first conference win of the year at Monmouth at 11 a.m. next Saturday.
